This paper described the river terraces and the buried geomorphic surface from Late Pleistocene to Holocene along the Koizumi River in the central part of Yamashiro Basin. The chronology of the micro-scale geomorphic surface was confirmed by the archaeologic excavation.
    i) In the middle reaches of Koizumi River three terrace surfaces during Late Pleistocene and the two steps in Holocene were developed, but disappeared in the lower reaches. The longitudinal profile of the higher surface of Holocene terraces (At-I) extends down stream to the underground surface of the top of Sand and Gravel stratum-1 (G1) or Clay Stratum (C1)
ii) Judging from the stratigraphy in the archaeological sites (Nishiyamada Site, Shimoueno-Minami Site, Nagaoka-Kyo Site etc.), the terrace scarp was shaped during Late Kofun period to Nagaoka-Kyo age (ca. 550-794 A. D.).
iii) The Holocene fault displacement is presumed by lower Koizumi River Alluvial Lowland based on the depth of buried fan surface during late Pleistocene and the flexure of Plio-Pleistocene Osaka Group. The fault was tentatively named as Oyamazaki-Shimoueno fault. The vertical dislocation rate of this fault is estimated as about 0.65mm/year. The structural disloclation was probably functioned in process of the landform development of the lower drainage area.

The land use pattern of Akita City during the Edo Period has been reconstructed based on various historical maps and writings.
The city was established between 1603 and 1630 by the Lord of the Satake Family. It has been shown that the city had a clear residential segregation according to the status and occupation of inhabitants. Four distinctive types of area have been identified: a) castle, b) retainers areas (which consists of high-vassals', middle-vassals', low-vassals' and footmen's areas), c) merchants' and artisans' areas, and d) temples. Each of these areas showed marked homogeneity.
It has been concluded that Akita City, which was planned and constructed by a feudal lord as a castle town, had kept its original mosaic structure throughout the Edo Era, regardless of the increased commercial activities and other socio-economic changes.

Accommodations are generally divided into two categories: western style hotels and Japanese style ryokans (inns). Accommodations are one of the important urban facilities. But few geographers have paid much attention to the locational patterns of the accommodations. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the locational patterns of the accommodations in Nagano City. The result gained out of our research is as follows:
    1. The number of accommodations has increased in recent years in Japan. This phenomenon is observed not only in resort areas but also in urban areas.
    2. The locational patterns of hotels are different from those of ryokans. Generally ryokans are located around the Temple of Zenkoji, and hotels are generally located in the CBD.
    3. The average capacity of hotels is three times as large as that of ryokans. The average rations of the number of hotel users to its capacity is two and a half times as much as that of inns. The average parking capacity of hotels is four times as large as that of ryokans.
    4. The average land value is higher where hotels are located than where ryokans are located.
