This paper describes the frequency temperature behavior and electrical characteristics of a new shape face shear mode quartz crystal resonator. The new shape quartz crystal resonator consists of a vibrational portion and supporting portions. The resonator has great advantages in improving miniaturization and shock resistance, because it is incorporated by an etching method. They are connected at the portions with small displacement of the vibrational portion. As a result, since vibration energy of the vibrational portion is trapped well inside, this resonator is excellent in electrical characteristics, namely, the resonator with low crystal impedance and a high quarity factor is obtained. Furthermore, the choice of a cut angle gives two remarkable features. One gives the zero temperature coefficient and the other does high linearity in frequency temperature characteristics. Thus, the new shape face shear mode quartz crystal resonator which is strong against shock, of small size and has noteworthy features in frequency temperature characteristics has been obtained.
