New equations of motion of the stepping motor for wrist watch are introduced in this paper by use of the lumped magnetic circuit which represents the magnetic property of a motor approximately. The constants of the magnetic circuit as unknown parameters are decided numerically referring to the experimental data obtained from a sample motor. The results of the simulation with the above-mentioned equations are compared with the coil-current curves of the motor corresponding to several experimental conditions, and it is shown that they coincide closely with each other. The equations are those developed mainly for the simulation of the stepping motor of one-body-stator type, however they are also applicable to the motor of two-body-stator type.

Titanium alloy is suitable to the watchcase as it is light weight and has superior features in the strength, thermal resistance, corrosion resistance, and fitness to human body, however, it has not been used so far because of its inferior forgeability. In order to improve the forgeability, superplastic forging method has been developed, however, this method is not efficient as it takes a long time and therefore it has lower productivity as compared with the usual forging method. Newly developed superplastic forging method with multichangeable speed is introduced in this paper. This method consists of two steps, high speed forging step and low speed one that follws, and in the latter step superplasticity of the alloy is revealed. This method allows the maker to produce titanium alloy products at a high productivity and makes it possible to use the alloy for watchcase.

With the appearance of quartz watches, production of multifunctional watches has been rapidly increased. In the recent year, diffusion of CPU-ICs makes easier to compose the family of watches with various types of function, not only in digital watches but also in analog ones. The display method of analog watches is determined by the wheel and trains unlike the display with LCD in digital watches. Therefore, analog watches are confined in display methods and multifunctioning as compared with digital watches. Under such circumstances, we have developed a basic module of multifunctional watches with analog multi-hands. This module has a CPU-IC and three motors controlled by the CPU-IC, and it is possible to compose any display train corresponding to various functions.
