Narrow fabric is defined in Japan as the cloth of less than 13 cm in width, e. g. tapes, labels, ribbons, etc. The loom for the production of these fabrics are called narrow fabric looms. These looms can be classified by the number of weft coloures provided, i. e. single-coloured loom and multi-coloured loom. The multi-coloured looms are, generally, used for labels and fancy ribbons, and many of the looms are with jacquard.
The multi-coloured looms with jacquard(woven label looms) can also be classified according to the weft insertion system used, i. e. peg, rack, and needle system.
In the present article, the authors described several features on the woven label looms from technical and economical view points. And also they pointed out the suitable condition for Japanese manufacturers, particularly, of small size mills.
