A new centrifugal winding has been developed in which a roll-back principle by centrifugal force was adopte in composite pipe forming. Basic characteristics of the centrifugal winding method are quantitatively clarified in this study. The main results are as follows :
(1) The centrifugal winding tends to be unstable at the start. Stabilized conditions were derived through experiments.
(2) A filament winding curve of stead state was obtained from a balance of centrifugal foices. Basic characteristics of the winding speed and fiber winding tension were determined through the winding curve and experiments.
(3) The limits of the centrifugal winding method were clarified concerning fiber configura, tion, diameter and length of the pipe, etc.
