The structures and characteristics of the ground fabric layers and pile layers in pile fabrics were studied in this paper. Results obtained are as follows.
(1) Assuming that the structure of the ground fabric layer is 3pick terry, the basic setting value for the ground warp (E
GO) and the basic setting value for the weft (E
so) may be expressed by : E
G0=E
G (√G+√P) /48.6
E
S0=E
S (3√W+2√P) /121.5
where, the basic setting value is the end density of the pile fabric woven by the ground warps of l
s, the wefts of l
sand the pile warp yarns of l
s, E
G is the warp density, E
s is the weft density, G is the yarn count for the ground warps, P is the yarn count for the pile warps and W is the yarn count for the wefts.
(2) The inclination of pile (θ) may be calculated by the following equation :
θ=
-1 (1/0.33Es+dp/2) / (lh+dp/2)
where, E
s is the weft density, d
p is the pile diameter, and l
h is the pile inclination length.
(3) The frictional and compressive properties were not influenced by the fabric density of the ground fabric layer.
