Research Committee on Cavitation in the Turbomachinery Society of Japan has discussed the prediction method of the cavitation damage with high accuracy. In this study, we compared fundamental data of stainless steels collected in the Subcommittee with the data obtained in our laboratory. The influence of material and liquid parameters on the scatter of the Subcommittee data was discussed. It was found that the scatter was influenced by high liquid temperature, kind of liquids, microstructure of components and operating life. We proposed the new prediction equation including these parameters, and found that the equation improved the accuracy of the damage prediction.

In recent years the requirement for use of natural energy has been increasing to solve the problems of the global warming and the shortage of petroleum resources. The wind power generation is one of promising power generation types in the future as well as the solar power generation, so that recently the amount of wind power generation has been increasing considerably. Although there are many wind turbine types in Japan, for example propeller type, darrieus type and savonius type. darieus type wind turbine with vertical axis is suitable for wind in Japan whose direction is not fixed. This paper described that the effects of flow around blades of wind turbine on the circumferential force were clarified by flow visualization and PIV method. The circumferential force in wind turbine having aerofoil without camber is larger than in wind turbine having aerofoil with camber. The circumferential forces are generated in rotational angle of from 200° to 270° and from 300° to 340°, and the force in λ=3(λ :circumferential velocity ratio) is larger than in λ=1 because of the reduction of change of attack angle.

New concept hybrid coating was developed in order to systematically prevent deposits on blade profile up to medium temperature zone, corrosion fatigue and erosion damage for low-pressure blade on chemical enrichment zone of mechanical-drive steam turbines. Practical element tests were conducted to evaluate basic features of this unique coating. Actual blade was coated to confirm coating condition for preparation of actual application.
