To clarify the effect of mitigation of salt accumulation in soil and salt stress tolerance of Zoysia matrella, four different NaCl solutions (0 g/L, 7.5 g/L, 15 g/L, 30 g/L) were applied to Zoysia matrella and bare soil in pots for 175 days. During NaCl solution application, ions in each part of plant body, growth increment and soil water salinity were measured. Soil water salinity in Zoysia matrella planted was significantly lower than bare soil. Na+ and Cl− contents were higher in top than in rhizome or root. It was considered that Zoysia matrella survived by transporting Na+, Cl− ions from root to top. Total amount of uptaken Na+ and Cl− by Zoysia matrella from soil were estimated as 650 kg/ha. From the above results, planting Zoysia matrella is considered to be effective for mitigating salt from soil.
