Among the various methods of turbulent flow computation, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with Dynamic Mixed Subgrid-scale (SGS) model is expected to be the most effective method to evaluate the turbulent energy transfer between resolved large size eddies and unresolved small size ones. In this paper, we survey the relation between the turbulent energy transfer and the flow structure by means of the computational flow visualization via LES of a wake of a rectangular cylinder (Re = 1.0×104). Main findings were as follows. The places where the turbulent energy transfer from resolved large size eddies to unresolved small size ones occurred are correspondent to the places where the SGS eddy viscosity coefficient takes large value. On the other hand, the inverse energy transfer from small to large (the backscatter) occurs in the center area of the wake.
