We have developed a digital color image and sound retrieval system using optical disk drive. This system is improved at several points. Multi-media data, such as disital image. digital sound, text and code data, can be stored in one optical disk media. High speed browsing search and the search function using index pictures are supported. Various presentation methods are supported. Viewers are impressed and understand the presented pictures deeply by these methods.
An images based geographic information system (GIS) using an efficient combination of images data and vector data has been developed. The system has beem realized on a 32 bit engineering work station (TOSHIBA AS series) with special hardware for high speed image data retrieval and display. The system adopts several (up to four) 5.25 inch optical disks to store the image data because of compactness and removability. It uses image data for a base-map, while the conventional GIS uses vector data for the base-map because of its lack of image processing capability.
This paper describes a new type of Viterbi detector that is able to deal with nonlinear intersymbol interferece (ISI) as well as linear ISI. Proposed Viterbi detector is applicable to recording systems such as magneto optical disc and digital VTRs without an equalizer. It is confirmed that two orders improvement is achievable in the region where bit error rate is on the order of 10^<-1> by means of simulation using the data of magneto optical disc.
To get ready delayed program, like sports programs, time is severely limited tor editing video tapes because we have to broadcast it so shortly after recording the object. This paper describes an experimental system can deal with broadcasts under severer condition by introducing a video disk to control duration on each reel when recording.
Read only type V-grooved disc, which can improve the recording density of optical disc, was developed, This disc has V-shaped grooves and signal pits are recorded on slopes of the groove. Fabrication method of the V-grooved disc and chracteristics of readout signals are shown.
