Noise suppression method, named AGI (Alternated Gain Inversion), is studied for realizing a highly sensitive high definition CCD image sensor. The sensor is a high photoconversion ratio STACK CCD imager. 1/5 noise suppression by the AGI is expected from the spectra analysis. Actually, the drastical noise reduction has been realized using the 1" 2M pixel STACK CCD imager.

This study investigated ways to obtain high SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) pictures with a HARP camera at very low light intensities. It was confirmed that an intermittent scanning of the HARP tube was the most suitable and effective method, especially for shooting objects in slight motion. NTSC and HDTV HARP cameras which used this technology actually could even shoot faint nebulae and aurora with clear images.

Generally, in the out of beam scanning area in the target of a camera tube, the surface potential of the target increases to almost the same voltage applied to the target. In the case of the Super-HARP tube, this phenomenon influences the beam landing characteristics and sometimes causes spurious images on the edge of the picture because of the very high voltage applied to the target. In order to decrease the surface potential, a new target structure has been developed, which has very little sensitivity. It is confirmed that the spurious images can be eliminated by applying this structure to the outside of the beam scanning area.

The detection mechanisum of discontinuities in intensity and of image motion in a human eye is well studied and the hardware circuits implementing these functions are storongly demanded. We have investgated the algorithms of an edge detection and motion detection, closely related to the parallel processing such as human eye. The performance of the edge detection of thc developed circuit is experimentally demonstrated for stationary and moving edge-inputs.

For the purpose of realizing the very fine barrier electrode ac plasma displays, we fabricated the 0.5mm pitch test panels with the barrier ribs fabricated by sandblasting method. As a result, it is showed that the sandblasting method has enough accuracy to fabricate the finer barrier electrode ac plasma displays. And luminance of 125 cd/m^2 and luminous efficiency of 0.25 lm/W were obtained for the panel with the barrier ribs fabricated by sandblasting method.
