Recent advances in Image Processing/Quality Estimation/Color technologies are reported from the IS&T Congress papers. Session highlights are as follows. 1.Image Processing: focused on Digital halftoning towards high definition printer. New ED for conventional printing and colorimetric ED methods are expected. Aesthetic and Prefered color imaging' is a future problem. 2.Image Quality: Measure of Text quality, Banding, Paper Brightness are discussed in relation to human visual perceptions. 3.Color: Faithful reproduction is usual. Δ E<3 is reported. Device Independent and Automated color matchings are in progress.
Development and trend of ink jet and thermal printing technologies at the 10th International Congress on Advances in Non-Impact Printing Technologies are reported. There were 17 papers concerning material, process and device given on Ink Jet Printing and 15 papers on Thermal Printing. Ink Jet Printing become more popular for use with personal computers and research acitivity is very high. A new direct thermal full color printing paper by using microcapsule technology was presented in thermal session.
Technology trends on novel printing are introduced through a brief review of 12 presentations made at the 10th Nonimpact Printing Congress. Image quality of TonerJet is improved by an etched circuit aperture array. Two reports of laser-induced colorant transfer process are announced. One of them called Helios is practically employed in medical printing use. Three different types of color electrophotographic systems are introduced. Improvement of the addressability for magnetography is attained by using a high-density magnetographic head and a highly coercive magnetic media. New exposing device referred to as paraxial Imaging System and_new toner charging method are also introduced.
The papers related to electrophotographic toners and photo-receptors were outlined in this report. They were presented in the 10th international congress on advances in NIP technologies (Oct. 30- Nov. 4, '94). While it was active to clarify the tribocharging mechanism of toners, the perfect theory was not obtained yet. In the photoreceptor field, hole transport mechanism could be understood by a dipole theory.
From the 10th International Congress on Advances in Non-Impact Printing Technologies held by IS&T, several interesting papers from Electrostatic Marking Process. Session and Liquid Toners and Printing Systems Session will be introduced.
