With the replacement of all one-inch video tape recorders with D-3 VTRs, which are usedin NHK to put programs on the air, we have invented a large-capacity video cart system. The D3-BANK system, using D3-VTRs, automatically puts on the air approximately 300 completed program tapes everyday in NHK's four television services, general, educational, BS1,BS2. In this report, we would like to outline the objectives and configuration of the new system.

800MHz band FPU is used for movement transmission well. But there was a limitet in some use bacause the band which a shadow of multi-path in movement transmission and was assigned was narrow. So we produced digital FPU of strong OFDM system experimentally in movement transmission, and tested it in a field. As a result, we were able to begin to examine possibility of movement transmission by digital FPU.

In this paper, I will describe the overview of our production and transmission of EDTV-II program. At first, about modefication and arrangement of the equipments in the system; OB Van, Sub Control Room, and Master Control Room. Secondary, I give the outline of the programs that have been on the air, and point out some technical substances. And finally, I suggest some technical problems related to broadcasting of EDTV-II program, awaiting solution in the future.

The broadcasting of EDTV-II has started on July 13,1995 by NTV. The EDTV-II video signal has a compatibility with conventional NTSC video signal. So that measuring method for conventional NTSC video signal can be used for measuring EDTV-II video signal. However, measuring method peculiar to EDTV-II video signal is not yet established. In this report, we propose new measuring methods and test signals peculiar to EDTV-II video signal.

In order to verify feasibility of high quality service in "the digital broadcasting era" from the technical point of view, we have developed a digital broadcasting system prototype for 525-line progressive scanning signal (525p), which is compliant to the system for 12.5GHz-band communication satellite (CS), reported by Telecommunications Technology Council. 525p real-time video encoder, multiplexer, 525p IRD etc. were newly developed to realize real-time transmission of 525p signal via this prototype. In the transmission experiment via CS, we observed consistency with the result derived from the experimental CS transmission by BTA in spring 1995,as well as good re-production of 525p video and associated audio with two different IRDs at the different places from the transmission site.
