5. Subst. I was identified as β-sitosterol. Subst. II, III, IV, VI, IX, and X are triterpene alcohols with a cyclopropane ring. The substance IV, considered to be the major component, has two secondary hydroxyls, one tertiary hydroxyl, and two intramolecular ether linkages besides the cyclopropane ring. Subst. X is present in the second largest amount following IV, and contains two secondary hydroxyls, one methoxyl, and two intramolecular ethers. Subst. VI contains one acetyl, one hydroxyl, one five-membered ring ketone, and an isopropylidene group. Subst. VII and VIII are triterpene alcohols without the cyclopropane ring, and VIII contains one acetyl, one five-membered ring ketone, and two intramolecular ethers besides the hydroxyl. Subst. V is a glycoside having a compound similar to VIII as the aglycone and xylose as the sugar.
