The reaction of dicarboxylic acidhydrazide having two functional groups has been investigated by using the analytical method as described in the first report and it was found that the reaction was not proceeded as the second order reaction without the presence of hydrazine but the reaction was proceeded as the second order reaction in the presence of hydrazine. Also, the quantitative determination of a terminal hydrazino group in polyaminotriazole as a reaction product was made by use of an improvement of the method described in the preceeding report and its numerical average molecular weight was saught. The determination of viscosity of polymer in m-cresol as a solvent was measured and the infinite viscosity was calculated. From these relations, viscosity formulas, [η]=3.92 × 10-3 × Mn0.57 for adipic acid polyaminotriazole and [η]=5.69 × 10-3 × Mn0.52 for sebacic polyaminotriazole were obtained.

The effect of using various diamters of 34, 47, 69, 100, and 230mm of reaction tubes on the formation of formaldehyde has been investigated. Also, a few experiments related to reactor construction materials have been carried out. The results indicated that using of larger diameter of reaction tube gave more formation of side-reaction products, especially of carbon dioxide, than using of tubes with smaller diameters and the temperature of reaction became higher in lower aircontent. From the above faet, in using of larger diameter of reaction tube, for suppression of the side reaction and prevention of fusion of catalyst, it was necessary to decrease the air/methanol ratio and decrease the rate of passage of methanol per unit cross sectional area of the reaction tube as well as the selection of suitable depth of ctalyst layer and the amount of spraying in order to suppress the formation of carbon monoxide and lowering as well as maintaining the uniformity of temperature of catalyst layer. Under a satisfactory operation of the above procedure, test with reaction tube with a diameter of 230 mm (max reactor in tests) with passage of methanol at the rate of 1.37 g/cm2/min and with air/methanol ratio of 0.98-99 l/g gave 75% reaction rate of methanol and 91-92% of theoretical yleld. Thus, it was considered that the reaction rate above 60% and 90% of theoretical yield were obtainable under the suitable condition of reaction even with the use of reaction tube having a diameter above 230 mm, and a description was made on an apparatus for industrial operation of manufacturing of 37% formalin at the rate 10 t/day with the use of a furnace having a single reaction tube having a diameter 680 mm. Results of a few experiments of using different metals for the reaction tube indicated that using of copper was the most suitable though 18-8 chromium-nickel steel could be used, but using of soft steel was unsatisfactory.
