Syntheses of new chiral pyrrolidinephosphine ligands (BPPM, BZPPM, PPPM, etc) from L-hydroxyproline and their application to the syntheses of optically active compounds were described. Thus, α-amino acids (8391% optical yields), salsolidine (45%), α-hydroxy esters (78.5%), R- (-) -pantolactone (80.586.7%), β-amino acids (5355.2%), α-methylsuccinic acid (94.2%) and β-methylaspartic acid (58.2%) were obtained.
Finally, the mechanism of their asymmetric hydrogenation was also discussed.
