Investigation has been made on the corresponding relation between the elasticity problem of a bar type inclusion and the elastic response of a borehole contained with a sensing apparatus in it to the complete stress relief operation.
Based on the results, the three dimensional equations (Eq.(13), (14), (15) for the case of the cavity and Eq.(20) for the case of the inclusion) for the theory of the method of the rock stress measurement using a borehole are calculated from the Edwards' solution on the problem of the ellipsoidal. inclusion.
There is a fundamental difference between the solution presented by us and the associated one presented by Hiramatsu and Oka, however, the dfference is not significant enough.
It is shown that the size and the eccentricity of the overcoring affect on the measured value when using arigid and or pre-stressing type of apparatus.
