The east slope of Mt. Taiheizan, Hiyama district, was surveyed at 7th March 1968, just at the most avalanching period. The features of the ground avalanches observed are as follows : i. There were much of roots and soils in the gliding snow cover (Photo. 2). The bared slopes classified as Table 1 appeared to be formed by such a snowy typed erosion in almost cases. ii. Some interesting phenomena were observed on the fracture line of ground avalanches (Photo. 3 to 5) and the type of rupture, the position of sliding surface, and the triggering factor were discussed. iii. Multiplying process at the transporting zone of the channelled avalanche was analyzed (Photo. 1-b and Fig. 3).
