We have developed a small-sized, NO
2-fluorescence detection system using a quartz microchip and an ultraviolet light-emitting diode (LED) whose center wavelength is 370nm. The measurement scheme consists of the following three steps: 1) absorption of NO
2 gas in the air into a flowing solvent on the microchip, 2) reaction with fluorescent regents, and 3) detection of the fluorescence signal from NO
2 solution flowing along a gap on the microchip. The detection limit of NO
2-, when using the microchip in a flow injection analysis mode, was 10
-7mol/L. The total size of the system was W320×D230×H177mm. In the present article, details in the fluorescence detection system and the results of fundamental performance tests are shown.
