The most important properties of the detergents used for the removal of inks from type and plate, or crea ning of inking rollers, machine and ink container, etc. are the evaporation rates and solvent power. These properties, however, have heretofore lacked in investigation.
The authors conducted the following experiments on the several commercial petroleum products such as gasoline, mineral spirit, kerosene and light oil for the purpose of securing information along the above line.
1. A simple method of determining evaporation rates was suggested, and evaporation were determined.
2. Viscosities, and dilution ratio of lithographic varnish solution were determined.
3. Diffusion rates of lithographic varnish in the solvents and dilute solutions were determined.
4. Solubility rates of lithographic varnish during the processing of its drying were determined.
