     The purpose of this article is to examine what actually happened in the Suita incident, a well-known political riot in postwar Japan, and how the incident was told and reconstructed after it took place. The Suita incident is famous in the history of Japanese social and political movements for its nonviolence, cooperation with Korean Japanese, and the victory in a trial which lasted for 20 years. However, even though this incident is well known and often recounted, and although it critically influenced the Japanese Communist Party, which organized the incident, there are few studies which clarify “what happened”, and “how events are narrated” by whom, how and why. Therefore, using documentary resources and interviews with the participants, this article first looks at “what happened” in the Suita and Hirakata incidents, and then examines how these two incidents have been recounted and their images have been molded by three component entities, namely the Japanese Communist Party, Korean Japanese, and the Japanese government. The “Suita incident” was, in a sense, very useful for all three, and all three profited from it by making partisan speeches on this political riot, slanted in a particularly favorable way for each.

    都市鉄道において、新規路線の開通、鉄道駅新設、ターミナル駅の大規模開発などの都市交通環境に変化が生じる。本研究では、京阪神都市圏を対象として、都市鉄道サービスの経年的変化が与える旅客流動変化に関する基礎的な分析を行う。具体的には、京阪神鉄道ネットワークの路線延長・鉄道駅の経年的変化を整理する。つぎに、京阪神の主要駅を起点とする鉄道駅起終点間の経路所要時間変化、経路所要費用変化、利用可能経路数変化を分析する。このとき、鉄道ネットワーク解析のため経路検索ソフトを援用した算定プログラムを構築する。また、鉄道ネットワークと鉄道需要との関係性を把握するため、代表的な鉄道駅の乗降客数の変化を鉄道サービス変化と周辺地域環境に基づいた経年的分析を行う。これらの分析から広域的な鉄道旅客流動変化の傾向を定量的に把握する。

    Recently, the roof-top vegetable gardens for rent have been drawing public attentions, particularly urbanites. We focused on the agricultural production and promotion functions of these gardens, and conducted interviews and participatory investigations to evaluate these functions. We selected 4 sample gardens in Osaka-Kobe region according to types of management agencies, and interviewed managers on the issues about opening processes and management policies. Through the interviews, we identified that one of the 4 sample gardens managed by NPO had higher attentions to the agricultural functions. Hence we had participated in this garden as a user, and made in-depth interviews with managers and users. We also measured vegetable volumes produced by users in round number. We found a mismatch between the manager’s policy to enhance agriculture itself and the users’ wills to enjoy a harvest only. Nevertheless, we estimated good production potential that could be competitive to the national average in the ordinary ground farmland.

    This paper deals with the role of housing development by estate campanies, through the case of Kansai Tochi Co. Ltd., which were founded in the middle of Taisho era. Tomosaburo TAKEHARA, the President of Kansai Tochi Co. Ltd., former a stock broker, was actively engaged in the housing enterprises by merging many estate companies, and the way of his housing management was to speculate in the housing estates as if they had been the stocks. He not only took over the business of merged estate companies but employed excellent managers and architects. Especially, Ohmino Den-en Toshi which had been developed by Kansai Tochi Co. Ltd. and MORISHOUJI District in Osaka City which was the project of a land readjustment system, were developed into the residential areas with excellent quality. But the company was in financial difficulties because it owned too many housing estates and a balance between supply and demand couldn't be kept during the war. It disappeared unexpectedly after the war in spite of developing land remarkably.

    Recently, railway companies are introducing energy-saving technologies, such as energy storage systems, energy-saving vehicles, and energy-saving driving operations. This results in the need for a method to accurately estimate the energy-saving effect of each technology. To this end, we developed a method to estimate of train operation energy consumption using the Train Operation Power Simulator. First, we developed a physical calculation algorithm of the Train Operation Power Simulator, unitizing the simultaneous measurements of substations and rolling stocks within a limited feeding section. Then, we developed an estimation method of commercial train operation energy consumption, unitizing the measurements of substations and commercial running data obtain from a train data collection device. We conclude that speed profile, running resistance, and auxiliary power of rolling stock are important for the energy consumption estimation. This study employs an algorithm of the speed profile generator for energy consumption estimation and a randomized braking method that adopts braking patterns derived from actual driving patterns obtained from commercial running data. In addition, this study employs the characteristics of running resistance obtained from running tests and the commercial running data, and the characteristics of auxiliary power obtained from commercial running data.
