Rabbits with experimental VB1 deficiency by aneurinase were given lactobacilli in human intenstine (Yakult) and metabolism of VB
1 in them was investigated by the sodium sulfite titration of their urine. The results are as follows.
(1) The titer of sodium sulfite in the urine of rabbits with experimental VB
1 deficiency by aneurinase recovered an ordinary state immediately after the feeding of the lactobacilli.
(2) The feed of the lactobacilli cured the experimental VB
1 deficiency by aneurinase and retarded the recidivation.
(3) Simultaneous feed of the lactobacilli with aneurinase producing bacilli caused no shortage of VB
1.
(4) The titer of sodium sulfite showed parallelism to the degree of spasm. Author concluded that lactobacilli is useful for the therapy for the experimental VB1 deficiency by aneurinase in rabbits, and the daily use of Yakult (lactobacilli) is effective for the prevention and therapy for VB
1 shortage by aneurinase and further for the prevention against beri-beri.
