Mori Building has engaged in various complex large-scale redevelopments represented by Ark Hills (1986), Roppongi Hills (2003), Toranomon Hills (2014) and others. All of these projects are based on an urban model called “Vertical Garden City”. Utilizing the high-rise tower and underground spaces the ground can be opened up to greenery and human beings, enabling efficient urban infrastructure development as well as various urban functions such as working, living, playing, learning, culture, and interaction. The model aims to realize an integrated compact city. In this paper, we introduce Mori Building’s latest project “Toranomon Hills” primarily with regard to the “effective use of underground space”.
