The Recent Sand Dune II, III-1 and III-2 are located in the Muramatsuhama to Nakamurahama caost of Tainai City, northern part of the Echigo Plain, Japan. Sedimentary facies of the Sand Dune III-2 is interpreted to be of foreshore, backshore and coastal sand dune origin. The lower part of the backshore deposits includes marine diatoms, and the deposits are dated as 780±80yrs BP. The upper part of the backshore facies hosts numerous trace fossils and marine diatom flora. Elevation of the foreshore deposits is about 3 meters, and the upper part of the backshore deposits is about 8 meters above the present sea level. The present backshore level of this area is about 2 meters above the sea level or below. The elevation of these facies is concluded that the foreshore deposits were uplifted during the ancient times to the beginning medieval period.
