To obtain a simple method for calculating landing loads and to establish a reasonable method of drop testing, landing loads are evaluated under some simple assumptions.
Following results are obtained:
where, W=total weight of aeroplane, z=stroke of landing gear, i=radius of gyration of aeroplane about C.G., l
1=horizontal distance between the contact point of main wheel and C.G. of aeroplane, l
2=horizontal distance between the contact point of front or rear wheel and C.G. of aeroplane, k=spring constant of landing gear, d=W/k,
suffix 1=main landing gear, 2=front or rear landing gear.
