    1. The adjacent segments of excised roots were separately submerged in acid wellwater (e. g. pH 3.0, 3.4, or 4.0) for 20 hours. The pH of the wellwater was measured by the chinhydron electrode method at the beginning and end of every experiment. 2. At the end of every experiment the pH value usually reverted in the nutral (pH 7) direction by the buffer action of roots. 3. The buffer action was highest in the apical segment of the root and decreased in those more remote. 4. The buffer action differed with the species or varieties of the plants.

    The piezoelectric characteristics of (Sr0.2Ca0.8)1-xNd2x/3Bi2Ta2O9+y mass%MnCO3 ceramics were examined. The samples were prepared by conventional sintering technique at 1190°C to 1250°C for 2h. The Curie temperature of samples gradually decreased from 631°C to 550°C when x increased. In the sample with (x, y)=(0.2, 0.2), the maximum value of mechanical quality factor Qm was obtained, approximately 27000, and phase curve showed no spurious in thickness extensional vibration mode (t-mode).

    Unbalanced vibration compensation using a tracking filter is applied to Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB). This filter extracts only unbalanced vibration from the input signal. Peak-of-Gain Control (PGC), Auto-Balancing System (ABS), and Phase-Variable Control have been reported as compensation methods using this tracking filter. Furthermore, in the previous study, we proposed a compensation method using uniaxial tracking filter that suppresses unbalanced vibration in the axial direction. However, the compensation method using the tracking filter has a specific value for the cut-off frequency of the low-pass filter (LPF) incorporated in the filter, but there is no technical background of the value. In addition, the uniaxial tracking filter is derived by tracing the signal path of the conventional tracking filter. Therefore, there is no theoretical background that the uniaxial tracking filter extracts only unbalanced vibration. In this paper, first, the tracking filter applied to the radial direction is interpreted by using both the fixed coordinate system and the rotary coordinate system. Based on this interpretation, a method for adjusting the cut-off frequency of LPF is proposed. Next, through interpreting by communication theory, it is clarified that the uniaxial tracking filter extracts only unbalanced vibrations. Furthermore, a method for adjusting the cut-off frequency of the LPF in the filter based on this interpretation is proposed.

    Questionnaire survey for staffs whose production facilities were affected by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake was carried to obtain basic data which are essential for promoting business continuity, actual state of business continuity and earthquake damages were clarified through the survey. Part I shows the actual state of business continuity. The following results of the survey were revealed. Although the number of offices which know business continuity is high, the number of offices which has a business continuity plan is low. The number of offices that set RTO and, start their business within RTO is low.

    1. The growth of roots of rice seedlings are inhibited as the concentration of (NH4)2SO4 in wellwater increases. The inhibiting effect of (NH4)2SO4 is less in the "Shinriki" variety (high yield and susceptible to rice blast) as compared to the "Kameji" variety (low yield and insusceptible to rice blast) in wellwater as well as in nutrient solution with the pH controlled at 5.5 or 7.0. 2. High concentration of (NH4)2SO4 which inhibits the growth of roots also inhibits the protoplasmic streaming in root hairs. The rate of streaming increases somewhat in adequately diluted solution (0.001 mol) of (NH4)2SO4 which was also found to be the optimum concentration for top growth. 3. When pH values of wellwater are distinctly low, the growth of roots and protoplasmic streaming are inhibited with the effects being less in the "Shinriki" variety as compared to the "Kameji" variety.

    1. Chemotropism of seedling roots of rice was observed in agar. 2. For ammonium ion, roots of paddy rice and upland rice showed chemotropism, but none for nitrate and several other ions. 3. Ammonium and nitrate ions diffused in agar with respective concentration gradients.

    The present study is an attempt to clarify the relation between the root system formation of rice plants and levels of nitrogen supply in paddy fields. The test material, the rice cultivar 'Mubo-Aikoku', was grown under different levels of nitrogen supply: N-nonsupply, N-8 kg level, N-16 kg level, and N-24 kg level; all levels are expressed in kilograms per ten ares. The results of observation on the root system in the longitudinal plane of the paddy were as follows: The soil depths of crown root distribution at N-nonsupply and N-8 kg level were 60 cm and 50 cm, and the depths at N-16 kg level and N-24 kg level were 40 cm and 35 cm. The fresh and dry weight of the roots grown at N-nonsupply was lighter than the others, and the weight of the roots grown at N-16 kg level was heavier than the others. The above facts seem to suggest that the shape of the root system is larger in depth and width in paddy fields with a low level of nitrogen supply and is smaller in one with a high level of nitrogen supply.

    In a traditional turbine-generator set, rotor shaft designers and blade designers have their own models and design process which neglects the coupled effect. Since longer blade systems have recently been employed for advanced turbine sets to get higher output and efficiency, additional consideration is required concerning rotor bending vibrations coupled with a one-nodal (k=1) blade system. Rotor-blade coupled bending conditions generally include two types so that the parallel and tilting modes of the shaft vibrations are respectively coupled with in-plane and out-of-plane modes of blade vibrations with a one-nodal diameter (k=1). In this paper, we propose a method to calculate the natural frequency of a shaft blade coupled system. According to our modeling technique, a certain blade mode is reduced to a single mass system, which is connected to the displacement and angle motions of the shaft. The former motion is modeled by the m-k system to be equivalent to the blade on the rotating coordinate. The latter motion is commonly modeled in discrete form using the beam FEM on an inertia coordinate. Eigenvalues of the hybrid system covering both coordinates provide the natural frequency of the coupled system. In order to solve the eigenfrequencies of the coupled system, we use a tracking solver based on sliding mode control. An eight-blade system attached to a cantilever bar is used for an example to calculate a coupled vibration with a one-nodal diameter between the blade and shaft.

    This paper describes an experimental study on the characteristics of blade-shaft coupled bending vibration of a rotor system with a bladed disk. In a rotor with relatively long blades such as low-pressure steam turbines, the coupled vibration of shaft torsional and blade bending vibration with nodal diameter of zero (umbrella mode) must be considered in terms of reliability. The bending-torsion coupled resonance of rotor systems occurs under specific conditions, when the rotational speed is equal to the sum and/or difference of the bending natural frequency and torsional natural frequency. In this study, a test apparatus with a flexible rotor equipped with a bladed disk which simulates actual turbine blade structure was developed to study the coupled vibration characteristics of shaft bending and blade (κ=0). The rotor was excited with an active magnetic bearing for lateral direction and a servomotor for torsional direction. Resonance of a bladed disk with nodal diameter (κ) of zero, which was coupled with the rotor’s torsional vibration, occurred under the above specific condition with lateral excitation force where frequency was equal to the rotor’s bending natural frequency. In addition, resonance of rotor bending vibration was found when the rotor was excited in torsional direction of its natural frequency.

    Coupled vibration problems in large scale mechanical or rotor systems are often encountered; for instance, a shaft-blade coupled vibration of a turbine and generator set. Instead of FEM modelling for a global system consisting of main system A and sub system B, an equivalent reduced system is presented. According to the reduction technique, the eigenvalue problem of the vibrating system B is first solved; then, equivalent masses and springs are determined for each corresponding eigenmode of system B. Therefore, the original global system is reduced to system A plus the additional masses representing system B. It is concluded that the reduced model is physically reasonable and numerically accurate enough, even though a simpler program is used for the system A than for the global system A+ B.

    As a basic study for the establishment of an accuracy estimation method in the finite element method, this report deals with the problems of transverse bending of thin, flat plates. From numerical experiments for uniform mesh divisions, the following relation was deduced, ε∝(h/a)k, k≥1, where ε is the error of the value by the finite element method relative to the exact value and h/a is the dimensionless mesh diameter. combining this relation with the results of the error analyses for local mesh refinement, an accuracy estimation method, which was based on the recursive simulation method, was presented. A computer program using this accuracy estimation method was developed and applied to nineteen problems of various shapes. The usefulness of this accuracy estimation method was illustrated by these application results.

    Transient variation of impact stress field within. cutting edge during the edge engagement in interrupted turning was first obtained through FEM calculation using measured variation of impact cutting force on rake face. The probabilistic stress criterion of brittle fracture and its variation due to impact deterioration, which were reported in the previous papers, were next obtained from impact fatigue and fracture tests of P 20 tungsten carbide. From the results, it is possible to obtain variation of the criterion with impact repetition for each finite element within the cutting edge by using the conversion rule reported in the previous paper. In collation of the most dangerous state of the transient stress with the fracture criterion at the each element, variation of fracture probability distribution within the cutting edge with number of the interruption is predicted. Several relations for small chipping occurrence and large failure occurrence are further predicted from this result. The predicted relation for large scale failure was verified to be in good agreement with experiment, while the relation for small edge chipping shows good agreement only in an incipient stage of the interrupted cutting. Formation of cutting edge roundness due to accumulation of the small chippings appears to alter the stress state in a vicinity of the cutting edge. It is found that fracture probability is largely reduced by applying a suitable flank force to the edge, and then the prediction of medium size chipping with neglecting minute ones becomes possible.

    Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) は伝染性単核球症の原因ウイルスとして知られているが, バーキットリンパ腫, 上咽頭がん, T細胞白血病, 胃がん, 乳がん等との関連が指摘されているヒトがんウイルスである. バーキットリンパ腫の樹立細胞からEBVゲノムが脱落すると腫瘍原性がなくなり再びEBVが感染しEBVゲノムが導入されるとその細胞は腫瘍原性を獲得することから, 細胞にEBウイルスゲノムが複製保持されることが腫瘍原性に密接に関連していることが示唆される. 従ってウイルスゲノム複製及び保持機構の解明はEBV感染がん細胞の制御を考える上で重要な研究領域である.
    DNAウイルスであるEBVは宿主細胞の核をゲノム複製の場とするが, 潜伏感染状態とウイルス産生状態でウイルスゲノム複製機構が異なる. 潜伏感染状態ではウイルスゲノムはヒストン蛋白質と結合したヌクレオゾームとして存在し染色体DNAと同じようにS期に同調して1回複製される. このゲノム複製は細胞周期に依存した複製様式から染色体複製開始の制御に関わる宿主蛋白質がEBVゲノムと相互作用をしていることが最近相次いで報告された. 一方, ウイルス産生状態においては潜伏感染時とは異なる複製開始領域oriLytから複製が開始し少なくとも複製後期においてはローリングサークル型複製様式によりウイルスゲノムは複製される. ローリングサークル型複製フォークで働くDNA合成装置は6種のウイルス由来複製蛋白質群 (DNAポリメラーゼ複合体, 一本鎖DNA結合蛋白質, ヘリカーゼ/プライマーゼ複合体) から構成される.
    本稿では (1) 潜伏感染時のEBVゲノム複製に関与することが明らかとなったOrc, CDC6, MCM complex の細胞内動態についてのぞく (2) EBV複製フォークで働くウイルス複製蛋白質の機能, 蛋白質間相互作用について我々がこれまでに得た知見を紹介し, EBV複製フォークのモデルを提示すること, また対照となるバクテリオファージなどの原核生物, 真核生物複製系と比較検討する.
