The first National Skills Competition was held in Tokyo and Chiba in 1963. The purpose was to select the players to be dispatched to the 12th WorldSkills Competition held in Ireland. Since then, the competition has been held every year around November. The 56th competition was held in Okinawa in 2018. The number and types of competitions have been changed and are continuing today. There were 15 works at the first competition. And the number of works has increased to 42 at the 56th competition, and the types of works have also changed significantly. In addition, there were 146 participants in the first competition. The number of participants in recent years has reached about 1300 people. This article describes the purpose of the competition, the type of work, issues, the player selection method, the location of the event, and the future issues of the national competition.
