The theories presented in the Reading-Book of Life - the Diaries (1979,Kawada Shobo Shin-Sha) will be summarized as follows: There can be be three classified approaches of the modern diary literaturebased on the standpoint of the authors - the first is to write them based onhis own thinkings, the second is to write them as a study on life and the thirdis to write the results of own intellectual inner activities. And in each of theseapproaches we can always recognize the awakening of ego on the bottom.In the age of the ancient diary literature the authors didn't have any suchmethod of expressing ego, but they made an attempt of making the inner expre-ssions of life, which made it possible for the group of diaries to be called theliterary works. They developed the concept of the diaries until it became quitefree from "the daily document" and established the method of creative worksdifferent from that of the modern diary literature.

『源氏物語』の本文について、写本時代に生まれ享受されきた古典作品の特質を理解するため、伝本それぞれを尊重すべきだという近年の主張は、かつてのテクスト論の議論と相似をなすととらえられる。そうした本文研究の最も前衛的な主張には共感できる面が大きいが、実際に取り組むには従来の研究との調整が必要である。注目して取り上げる伝本の本文を通行の本文と類似した形に整訂し、論点を絞って比較することが有効であろうと判断された。陽明文庫本若紫巻の本文を『新編日本古典文学全集』のそれと対比しながら解読すると、両者の間に、先行する他作品ないし物語内の先行する場面との関連の強弱、作中人物と語り手の距離に関する違いが観察できた。これらを揺れ動く本文を含み込んだ作品の幅と認めることができる。
