We are analyzing the shooting technique of broadcasting cameramen to develop an intelligent robot camera. From basic experiments in sports programs, we learned dynamic characteristics of cameraman's eyes and the camera. Here are the findings ; the gazing velocity is approximately 50deg/sec through the program, maximum value is more than 200deg/sec ; the maximum accelation of the camera while on air and while searching are about 200deg/sec^2,300deg/sec^2 or more, respectively ; etc.

A future broadcasting system will broadcast along with regular programming a wide variety of program-related information called metadata. Our speech recognition technology is applied to extract information that corresponds to highlights from the commentary of a football game. The proposed method uses additional phoneme models of excitedly uttered words which may be important key words for highlight extraction. The proposed method obtained 14% of key word error reduction, which improved extraction accuracy of scenes making a shoot by 18% in precision and 17% in recall.

We developed a new type camera which named "LINEARCAM". It is completely remoto-controled and video is transmitted by radio microwave. The camera runs on three parallel wires which set on the air at a maximam speed ot about 30 kirometers per hour. We have already used in same live TV programs and have got effective scenes. It will be able to use for variable programs, such as sking, athletic sports, swiming and so on. This paper discuss system outlines of LINEARCAM and its effectibities. Moreover, we discss possibilities of LINEARCAM.
