    Kofu-Ryoritsu-no-Maki (KRRM, also known as Kofu/Hooshoo-fu Ryoritsukan/Kofu Ritsuryo-kan) _??__??__??__??__??_, a tablature score for shoo _??_ (mouth organ with 17 bamboo pipes, used in gagaku _??__??_), was compiled in the early 13th century by musicians of the Toyohara family. It includes a large repertoire of toogaku _??__??_ pieces and is especially significant as one of the earliest sources which includes the indications
    nobe
    _??_ and haya _??_, a pair of metrical specifications.
    The elements of the notational system of KRRM are as follows:
    1. Primary tablature signs in vertical column of notation indicating the names of the pipes of the instrument.
    2. Secondary signs dealing with rhythm, namely ku-ten _??__??_ (intra-columnary dots) and kobyooshi-ten _??__??__??__??_ (dots to the right of the notational column). Although the ku-ten and kobyooshi-ten systems are applied to the notational column simultaneously in KRRM, these can be analyzed independently.
    Analysis focusing on these elements has made it clear that all measured toogaku pieces can be classified into two rhythmic types. Furthermore, comparison of the melodies in KRRM with those in Sango-Yooroku (SGYR) _??__??__??__??_ and Jinchi-Yooroku (JCYR) _??__??__??__??_, both of which were compiled in the late 12th century by Fujiwara no Moronaga, has shown that melodic features in KRRM correspond to those in SGYR and JCYR, although the two types of KRRM are divided into four types in SGYR and JCYR.

    In the greater part of the repertoire of SGYR and JCYR, an original melody and an arrangement of this is given for each measured piece. In

    _??__??__??__??_ pieces particularly, most of the original melodies can be classified into Type A or AB, and the arrangements into Type B. Even though these pieces are classified as
    nobe
    pieces as a whole, the original versions in Type A or AB may be classified as haya pieces in terms of the density of tablature signs and melodic movement. In some cases, the original versions in Type A or AB of
    nobe
    are expressly referred to as haya in KRRM.
    Today the classification of
    nobe
    and haya is fixed for each piece, but it seems not to have been in the late Heian to early Kamakura periods (the 12th-13th centuries). In other words, there were several versions of each piece, differing from each other in terms of the metrical specifications

        In 2013, I carried out a sample survey of women in Canberra regarding their personal networks to assess social ties from the viewpoint of “the community question” [Wellman 1979]. My analyses revealed the following three outcomes: (1) Canberra's urban planners invoked influential concepts like the garden city movement, the neighbourhood unit, and the Radburn system, all of which guided construction of new towns in the twentieth century. My data indicate that these urban-planning strategies did not affect the personal networks of Canberra women because most could move freely within the city using their own car. (2) Women's personal networks consisted mainly of friendship and kinship relationships. The primacy of neighbourhood relationships declined alongside an increase in social relationships that extended beyond neighbourhood ties and which connected dispersed locations across Canberra, including a neighbouring small city, Queanbeyan. Women who lived in remote places were more likely to be connected to friends and relatives than women who lived in the city. Additionally, friends were such a powerful source of social support that they almost matched relatives. Overall, the “community liberated” perspective was more consistent with the data than were either the “lost” or the “saved” perspectives. (3)

The women I interviewed in 2013 had, on average, resided in the city for longer than

    et al. (1998), using a gaze tracking method, has investigated aspects of an anthropomorphic agent's hand gestures which human listeners were looking at in a real-time setting. The current study was conducted to evaluate further the human-anthropomorphic agent interaction, by increasing the number of human subjects involved and by focusing upon how the subjects' attention to gestures leads to a comprehension of them. Subjects gazed at and fixated on most gestures. Moreover, subjects imitated and understood most of the gestures in a reproduction test and a comprehension test. Sometimes subjects answered these tests correctly without any fixations, suggesting they might view the gestures in their near-foveal and peripheral vision and/or use the co-occurring speech information. These results were compared to the gaze behavior of gestures in a human-human interaction reported by Gullberg & Holmqvist (1999).

    Along this valley, there are good exposures of the Tertiary sediments which constitute the Higasiyama Oil Field. Figure 1 shows a geological section along the valley. With the object of making a study of the variation in the micro-fauna, twenty samples containing foraminiferal fossils were collected along the valley. Of those twenty samples, two were collected from the Siroiwa Bed, one from the Usigakubi Bed, fourteen from the Ifigasiyama Bed, and three from the Araya Bed. No fossils were found in the Wanatu Bed within the valley, but the underlying sediments contained plentiful micro-fauna. Organisms were found to be most abundant in the more shaly beds.
    The accompanying chart [Pl. 21 (11)] indicates localities and variations in micro-faunal content and the faunal abundance is shown by symbols on the legend of the chart. Horizontal lines have been drawn between the symbols of abundance in order to aid in recognizing zonal changes, and the dotted lines have been prepared to show the common species found in the Haizume Bed of Nisiyama Oil Field which is correlated to the Siroiwa Bed. of Nisiyama Oil Field which is colleated to the Siroiwa Bed.
    Table 1 shows the number of families and genera, and the total number of different species, varieties, and indeterminable species in the Siroiwa, Usigakubi, Iligasiyama, and Araya Beds. Table 2 shows the percentage of different species, varieties, and indeterminable species belonging to each family, in relation to the total number of different species, varieties, and indeterminable species in each bed. Figure 2 is a graphic representation of the data in this table. In order to give an idea of the relative abundance of the different families in each bed, a value is assi, ned to each symbol in the accompanying chart:×;=5, Ο=30, Ο= 75, Ο=150. Table 3 shows the percentage of each family in the four beds. Figure 3 is a graphic representation of the data in Table 3.

    This study carried out driving experiments on safety check behaviors and vehicle movements at five roundabouts in Japan. Specifically, each driver's attention when entering or exiting the intersection was analyzed by using video and drive recorder data. As a result, it is revealed that the safety check position is positively correlated with the safety check speed for the case of entering roundabout, however this relationship is not clearly confirmed for the case of exiting roundabout, especially 4-leg roundabout cases. From the analyses of necessary deceleration rate (NDR) for safety stop before the crosswalk, it is found that colored pavement triggers high deceleration at roundabout entries. On the other hand, as for roundabout exits, it is revealed that 4-leg intersection has a high impact on the deceleration value, whereas both left turn movement and the existence of pedestrian at far side edge of crosswalk reduce the NDR value.

    超離散QRT系とは、8個のパラメータを含む区分線形写像で与えられる二次元の力学系である。この力学系はQRT系とよばれる二次元の離散可積分系から超離散化により得られ、一つの保存量をもつので可積分である。保存量を与える区分線形方程式から平面の分割が定まるが、パラメータがある関係を満たすときにはその分割から扇を得ることが出来る。このような場合、時間発展は扇の写像となるので超離散QRT系は扇の力学系とみなすことができ、任意の初期値に対して一定周期の解をもつことが示せる。扇の力学系となる場合は全部で24通りあり、それらの解の周期は2,3,4,5,6,7,8および無限大のいずれかである。

    We propose a method of constructing differential equations directly from cellular automata. Any elementary cellular automata (ECAs) introduced by Wolfram can be transformed into a partial differential equation (PDE) which preserves the time evolution patterns of the ECAs. In particular, some PDEs constructed by the method reproduce complex fractal and self-organizing patterns found in their corresponding ECAs. It is expected that the method can be extended for general cellular automata with more complex rules and/or in higher dimensions.

    Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a monogenic disorder associated with primary hypercholesterolemia. FH is characterized by autosomal co-dominant inheritance with strikingly elevated LDL-cholesterol, the presence of xanthoma and premature atherosclerosis. In the course of investigations of coronary artery disease in Utah, we identified a family whose proband showed elevated plasma levels of LDL cholesterol. To determine the genetic etiology of the lipoprotein abnormalities, we screened DNA samples from the family for mutations in all 18 exons and the exon- intron boundaries of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) gene. Novel point mutations were identified in the proband: a one-base insertion of G to a five-G stretch at nucleotides 2412-6 (codons 783-785), causing a frameshift in exon 17 of the LDL receptor gene. The direct sequencing method was used to examine six members of the family recruited for the diagnosis. This method helped to unequivocally diagnose the five individuals as heterozygous for this particular LDL receptor mutation. This method also helped us to diagnose with FH, or to exclude from carrier status, three children between ages 6 and 11.

    Inflammatory bowel disease is associated with a colonic dysfunction of smooth muscle contractility. In this study, we investigated an alteration of carbachol (CCh)-induced contractile responses in rat colon under inflammatory conditions. The inflammation was induced by an injection of trinitrobenzensulfonic acid (TNBS) into the colonic lumen, 3 days after the injection, hypertrophic of smooth muscle layer in colon was confirmed. Ring shaped-colon tissues were isolated from saline-treated control and TNBS-treated rats. These tissues were placed in physiological organ bath system and then, CCh-elicited isometric force developments were assessed. Treatment of CCh (0.1-30 µM) induced dose-dependent force responses in both types of tissue, but the responses were attenuated in the TNBS-treated rat. Maximal response in TNBS-treated rat was about 60 % of control. Pretreatment with muscarinic M2 receptor antagonist (methoctramin; 1 µM) was surpressed the CCh-induced response. Similar result was detected by pretreatment with muscarinic M3 receptor antagonist (4-DAMP; 1 µM). These inhibitory effects could not be distinguished between control and TNBS-treated rats. These results indicated that the reduction of the colon contraction in inflammatory rats was not involved in the dysfunction of muscarinic receptors. One of the key elements of contractile signaling pathway, association of protein kinase C (PKC) was considered. In control rat, pretreatment of the PKC inhibitor, calphostin C (1 µM) prevented the CCh-induced force development. But the inhibitory effect was not detected in TNBS-treated rat. Moreover, PKC activator (PDBu; 1µM)-induced enhancement of the force responses also detected only in controls. These results indicated that the reduction of the colon contraction in TNBS- indicated colitis model was caused by the inhibitory of the PKC activity. We suggest that the inflammatory bowel disease involves a dysfunction of PKC pathway.

    We have studied formation of liquid crystalline gel (LCG) induced by dialysis of concentrated DNA aqueous solutions into concentrated cobalt chloride solution. The condition of forming LCG was determined, and the time course of volume, DNA concentration, cobalt chloride concentration and thickness of LCG layer of DNA solution/gel composite were measured. It was found that the growth process of DNA LCG consists of two dynamics: cobalt cation diffusion limited process at the early stage and the pH change limited process at the later stage.

    The characteristic processes of gelation and liquid crystalline (LC) formation in the dialysis of curdlan solution have been observed under crossed nicols. On the basis of the Ca^<2+> and the OH^- ion diffusions a simple theory for the time development of the thickness of the LC layer was developed.

    Estimations of simulation results of human activities are closely related to make civilians get out of dangers. Different from physical phenomena, simulations of human actions are difficult to evaluate their results. Several evaluation methods of rescue operations used RoboCupRescue competitions are presented and they are reviewed from a point of checking disaster prevention plans.

    哺乳類における細胞の多くは,機能発現時にさまざまな力を発生させる.筋肉細胞はもちろん,分泌細胞や免疫系細胞などの非筋細胞においても力を発生することが予想されている.しかしながら非筋細胞による収縮反応を検出することは,その発生張力が極めて微弱であることから困難とされてきた.近年,特定の受容体やチャネル,細胞内因子に変化を加えた培養細胞が容易に調製できるようになり,その変化がどのように細胞機能に影響するかについて興味の対象となっている.そのため,目的とする細胞因子とその機能の関係を理解する一つの指標として非筋細胞収縮の評価が有用であると期待されるが,その有効な評価方法は確立されていない.本総説においては,非筋細胞収縮のためにこれまで試みられてきたいくつかの手法について紹介し,著者らが線維芽細胞を用いて進めてきたコラーゲンファイバー法による収縮測定法の詳細について解説する.また,コラーゲンファイバー法による知見と問題点を挙げ,この方法が非筋細胞における細胞機能や細胞内情報伝達系を理解する上で有用な手法であることを提案する.

    SMTP-7, a fungal metabolite, is reported to have a high degree of availability for the ischemia–reperfusion (IR)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) model. Cisplatin, a widely used anticancer drug, has serious side effects, such as AKI. Hence, we aimed to examine the effect of SMTP-7 on cisplatin-induced AKI in this study. Significant increases in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Scr) were observed at 72 h after the intravenous infusion of cisplatin (20 mg/kg). Histologically, necrosis and dilatation (hyaline casts) as well as regeneration were observed in proximal tubules. SMTP-7 inhibited the elevation on BUN and Scr caused by cisplatin dose dependently. The efficacy of SMTP-7 was notable when the drug was administered on the day after cisplatin treatment, whereas the repeated administration of the drug did not result in an enhanced efficacy. Moreover, 10 mg/kg of SMTP-7 considerably ameliorated tubular necrosis and dilatation. The cisplatin treatment also caused an up-regulation of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) mRNA expression prior to the elevation of the levels of BUN and Scr. Administration of SMTP-7 (10 mg/kg) at 24 h after the cisplatin infusion alleviated the up-regulation of TNF-α mRNA expression. These findings suggest that SMTP-7 exhibits a renoprotective effect against cisplatin infusion based on the inhibition of the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and may be expected a new effective drug for the treatment of cisplatin-induced AKI.

    Endothelial cell (EC) barrier dysfunction is associated with many types of vascular diseases. Investigators have hypothesized that altered EC contraction in conjunction with morphological changes may lead to EC dysfunction. However, the nature of EC contraction and its regulatory mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study we measured thrombin-induced force in bovine arterial EC force using EC fibers that were grown in a collagen matrix. Contraction, which occurred in time- and dose-dependent fashion, was elicited by thrombin. The thrombin-enhanced EC layer permeability was correlated with EC fiber contraction. These results suggest that EC contractile response is involved in alteration of EC barrier function. During the initial period of thrombin stimulation, cadherin complexes were disrupted and cell-to-cell connections were reduced. This was dependent on the transient increase in intracellular calcium concentration and myosin phosphorylation. Rho kinase activation led to rearrangement of actin stress fibers (ASF). Paracellular holes were created in the EC layer in parallel to EC morphological change. Our findings suggest that EC layer permeability is regulated by two distinguishable steps. In the initial period, the cell-to-cell connection was reduced in a calcium-dependent fashion. Subsequently, Rho kinase and ASF-mediated force development increased EC layer permeability via morphological change of EC.

    When biopolymer solutions come in contact with a coagulation bath containing a gelling factor such as ions, chemical crosslinkers, and pH conditioners, diffusion of the gelling factor through the contact interface into the polymer solutions induces gelation, which proceeds gradually in a direction along the diffusion of the gelling factor. In this directional gelation process, characteristic structures are frequently formed in the biopolymer gels. This review presents general features of the structure formation by the diffusion of the gelling factors and some specific examples for typical biopolymers.
