    In Japan, reports on the association of individual characteristics, and geographical distance and time with clinical outcomes for neurological emergencies involving helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) are scarce. Using Tochigi HEMS data (2010-2018), we assessed the characteristics of 1,170 emergency neurological patients (

    e
    .g., stroke, neurotrauma, and seizure) at the base hospital, which covered 58% of all HEMS patients in the prefecture. After initial treatment in the emergency room, emergency physicians confirmed the clinical outcomes of each patient compared to those at the incident sites (recovery/non-recovery). We calculated the geographic distance from the base hospital to each incident site, and estimated and adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and

    % confidence intervals (CI) for non-recovery against distance. The mean distance between the incident site and base hospital was

    In the first part of the present work the interaction of glycophorin with dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) is studied by freeze fracture electron microscopy, densitometry, calorimetry, and 90° static light scattering. An exothermic lipid/protein interaction energy of WP=190 kJ•mol-1 was found by application of the well known Van Laar relation for the displacement of the freezing point and the Gibbs-Duhem relationship. Secondly, the effects of Ca2+ on the lipid/protein interaction were studied. Following Ca2+ addition a remarkable decoupling of the interaction of the glycophorin head group with the bilayer surface was revealed by densitometry and gold-labeling electron microscopy. It is estimated that about 80% of lipid once disturbed by the adsorption of glycophorin head groups is decoupled after addition of Ca2+. Thirdly, the selective interaction of glycophorin with binary lipid mixtures was studied, including the mixtures of DMPC with dimyristoylphosphatidylserine (DMPS) and dilauroylphosphatidylcholine (DLPC), and the mixture of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) with DLPC.

    This study was performed to clarify which factors affected damage to tame-ike (small embankment dams for irrigation) in Hokudan Town as a result of the January 17, 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu earthquake. Factors were assumed to be : Location (

    .g., Distance to Epicenter, etc.), Structure (

    .g., Angle to Nearest Fault, Embankment Volume, etc.), Soil Properties of Embankment, Geology of Dam Site and History (Era of Construction, Repaired, etc.). Multivariate statistical analyses were performed for documentary data (damaged : 181, undamaged : 328). Ordinary statistical analyses were conducted for the data investigated in situ for soil properties of the embankment. The results show that the factors causing damage to dam are : (1) Nearest Fault (Nojima, Mizukoshi and D2), (2) Distance to Nearest Fault (less than 500 m), (3) Distance to Epicenter (approximately

    We screened the differentiation-inducing activities of 39 mushroom extracts from Akita prefecture, Japan, on the mouse osteoblastic cell line, MC3T3-
    E
    1. Sixteen phosphate buffered saline (PBS),

    boiled PBS, 14 ethanol and 12 methanol extracts induced alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities, an indicator of MC3T3-
    E
    1 cell differentiation. The enzyme activities were markedly induced by extracts of Tricholoma auratum, and we isolated the active compound from methanol extracts of this mushroom. Physical data for the isolated active compound were identical to those for (
    22E
    ,24R)-ergosta-7,
    22
    -diene-3β,5α,
    -triol (1). 1 induced ALP activities of MC3T3-
    E
    1 cells and promoted cell proliferation. To investigate the relationships between the chemical structure and differentiation-inducing activity of the compound, ALP-inducing activities of MC3T3-

    This study aimed to determine the prevalence of fecal carriage of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and/or plasmidic AmpC β-lactamase (pAmpC) producing Escherichia coli among dogs (n=428) in Turkey. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing were used to characterize genes encoding β-lactamase and plasmid mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR). Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and PCRs for virulence genes and phylogenetic groups were also performed. Cefotaxime resistant

    . coli isolates were detected in

    This paper presents a review for the crystallization of nonlinear optical crystals such as LaBGeO5,
    LiBGeO4
    , fresnoite-type
    Ba2TiGe2O8
    and several langasite-type crystals in glasses and for the second order optical nonlinearities of those crystals. In this study, transparent surface crystallized glasses consisting of LaBGeO5,
    LiBGeO4
    and
    Ba2TiGe2O8
    crystals were successfully fabricated from the corresponding glasses. Second order nonlinear optical coefficients, d33, were evaluated by Maker fringe technique for those surface crystallized glasses. As a result, it was demonstrated that the
    LiBGeO4
    and the
    Ba2TiGe2O8
    crystals indicated large d33 values, i.

    ., – 1.3 pm/V and –

    pm/V, respectively. In particular, d33 of the
    Ba2TiGe2O8
    crystal is comparable to that of LiNbO3 single crystal. Moreover, we confirmed for the first time that the langasite-type crystals, which are promising materials for SAW device, are formed by crystallization in the corresponding glasses.

    A high performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of the cyanogenic glycosides, i.

    -trien-3-one. The side chain on the steroid was then constructed by means of a Wittig reaction followed by introduction of the Δ7 bond by standard methods and its protection with 1-phenyl-1, 2,

    -triazoline-3, 5-dione. Subsequent reduction of the hydroxy groups in the steroid side chain followed by reduction of the Diels-Alder addition products yielded the both 24-isomers. The 5, 7-dienes were irradiated and the corresponding vitamin D compounds isolated. Nuclear magnetic resonance was used to identify individual isomers. The (

Its applicability in the standardization of Polyporus Sclerotium is discussed based on comparative studies of 30 crude samples of Polyporus Sclerotium and some other fungi herbs using TLC and HPLC analysis with I it as the marker compound, as well as its chemical synthesis.

    By employing an undrained cyclic loading ring-shear apparatus, a series of tests to reproduce the dynamic behavior of the Nikawa landslide induced by the January 17, 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu earthquake, is conducted. The test sample is Osaka-group coarse sandy soil taken from the landslide. The initial stress condition acting on a soil element in the sliding surface is applied to the sample. Based on the seismic records monitored at the JR Takarazuka Station, the input seismic wave is synthesized to reproduce the seismic stress acting on the sliding surface. The test results show that the soil failed due to the dynamic loading of the earthquake. The most important results are the excess pore water pressure generation and the acceleration of shear displacement continuing after the main shock. Combined with the grain crushing at the shear zone and the volume reduction in the drained constant-speed ring-shear test, the mechanism of this landslide is interpreted as, shear displacement causing grain crushing in the shear zone and volume reduction, and then resulting in a localized liquefaction phenomenon, "sliding-surface liquefaction". This geotechnical simulation test provides a reasonable interpretation of this highly mobile landslide.
