    Intracerebral injection of vegetative myxamoebae of strains of Polysphondylium pallidum caused 80 to 100% mortality in mice, whereas a 30 to 50% mortality occurred with strains of Dictyostelium giganteum and D. mucoroides. Death is attributable to an unidentified toxic factor. Histopathologically a giant cell formation was seen in the spleen of mice. This cell was different from Langerhan's or foreign body giant cell. Rats injected intracerebrally behaved similarly. Intranasal instillation of myxamoebae in guinea pigs caused transient pneumonia. Myxamoebae do not multiply in the brain tissues of mice or rats, or in the lungs of guinea pigs.
    Intranasal instillation of vegetative myxamoebae is less pathogenic than free living amoebae like Hartmanella culbertsoni, H. rhysodes, Naegleria sp. (Culbertson strain HB-1), or Naegleria aerobia.

    The

    nd Annual Meeting of Japan Society for Science Education (JSSE) was held on July 29-31, 1998 at Tokyo Gakugei University in western suburb of Tokyo with about 290 registrants under the main theme of "Towards Implementation of Science Curriculum for Construction of Creation and Symbiosis." Number of papers over 210 were presented in both main sessions and general presentations. There were two symposiums, one lecture, one forum, one international forum, one workshop, three sessions of themes set by the steering committee and ten sessions of themes set independently by members of JSSE in main sessions. Also, there were many other general presentations. Many papers were presented coping with the main theme. They were a lecture related to learning and creativity based on advance of brain, and many presentations related to symbiosis such as relation between in-door and out-door school activities, school based research activities such as curriculum development, and way of finding new methodology of research on classroom, consistency of curriculum through elementary to high school, pre-service teacher education, and so on. Contents of claims and discussions in every presentation in main sessions are summarized in this paper.

    A financial market is a diversified dynamical system with many constraints, and price movements are modeled in terms of the micro properties of each transactions and the macro properties of dynamical systems. These two properties must be bridged by the multiplicity. The model forcuses on the size of tick and the number of transactions with the price movement compared with the previous transctions and explains stochastic nature of short-term volatilities and persistently stable long-term volatilities as a results of unique behaviour of heterogeneous market participants.

    's account of perception developed in his book Intentionality, perception is "causally self-referential, " in the sense that the representative content of a perceptual experience involves reference to that very experience. This claim is untenable, and it derives from a failure to draw a sharp distinction between the representative contents of Intentional states and their conditions of satisfaction. An account of Intentional states can accommodate the alleged self-referentiality of perception without commitment to

    Contemporary psychology hasn't been considered to have the "theory", but guided by the principle of naïve "positivism" or "empiricism." The aim of the present article is to describe the importance of the theoretical studies in modern psychology. One of the reasons that theoretical psychology has never been regarded as a major field of psychology seems psychologists's misunderstanding what the "theory of psychology" is. This article describes first what the "theory of psychology" should include, according to the famous thought experiment "
    Chinese
    Room
    " (
    Searle
    , 1980). Second, how theories and facts are related each other in science is discussed following the long history of the research development in physics. It is argued that the "theory" is not directly related to empirical data (fact), but is mediated by "models" that translate the "theory" to be applied to the fact. This is against the intuitive view that theories of science must be directly tested by empirical data. Moreover, this framework delineates how theoretical approach and experimental approach should be related in scientific approach of psychology. The idea of the necessity of theoretical psychology should contribute to education in psychology. Especially, it can provide "formal language" for education of theoretical research of psychology.

     本稿では,中小企業経営者が自社の管理会計実践に対して抱いている認識について検討する。先行研究では,自らは管理会計を実施していないと認識していながらも自社の財務的業績の推移を確認している中小企業経営者が一定数存在していることが明らかにされている(朝原 2010)。本稿ではこれを受けて,飲食企業4 事例のケース・スタディにより,経営者が認識していないにもかかわらず管理会計が実践されている可能性を考察したい。そして,経営者自身が会計プロセスの一部分しか担っていない場合には,経営者が自社において管理会計を実践していることを認識しない場合があることを示す。そのうえで,中小企業における管理会計の実態をより正確に理解するためには,会計情報の生成・ 利用プロセスにとどまらず,企業活動の管理のための情報の生成・利用プロセスというより広範な観点からの調査が必要と考えられることを論じる。

    The phase decomposition of the β′ phase in the Zn-
    22
    mass%Al and Zn-
    22
    mass%Al-2 mass%Cu at
    room
    temperature was followed by means of the X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Vickers hardness (VH) measurements. Alloys were homogenized at 623 K for 432 ks and then quenched at 275 K. Immediately, they were characterized by XRD and simultaneously other samples were analyzed by hardness Vickers measurements. The XRD results showed that the β′ phase is unstable at
    room
    temperature and its decomposition finished after 1.8 and 18 ks by the following reaction, β′→α+η, for the Zn-
    22
    mass%Al and Zn-
    22
    mass%Al-2 mass%Cu alloys, respectively. The TEM analysis was carried out in the Zn-
    22
    mass%Al-2 mass%Cu alloy, which showed a slower kinetics than the Zn-
    22
    mass%Al alloy. The TEM results showed in situ that the β′ phase is in coexistence with the ε phase and its decomposition occurs by the formation of colonies composed of nanometric grains of the α and η phases. Such colonies extend to cover completely all the surface of the alloy, followed by the coarsening of grains to the micrometer scale. The Vickers hardness results showed an increase in hardness up to a maximum of 108 and 148 VH, followed by a decreasing in hardness of 50 and 80 VH, for the natural aging of the Zn-
    22
    mass%Al and Zn-
    22
    mass%Al-2 mass%Cu alloys, respectively. These results can be attributed to the presence of the nanometric and micrometric grains, respectively.

    The chromosomes of metaphase II oocytes of the
    Chinese
    hamster were investigated at different intervals following 200R X-irradiation. The frequency of chromosome aberrations in the group exposed immediately before metaphase I was remarkably high. A significant increase of numerical aberrations also occurred in this group.

    DNA alkylation and cross-linking are classical mechanisms underlying the activity of cancer chemotherapeutic agents such as procarbazine and mitomycin C, which are currently used in the clinic. Chloroethyl N-nitrosoureas is one group of anticancer cross-linking agents, and exert their biological activities by formation of DNA cross-links. Because anticancer chloroethyl N-nitrosoureas shows toxic side-effects due to protein carbamoylation, many efforts have been exercised to reduce unwanted side-effects by design of new drugs with low carbamoylating activity. N-Nitrosamines, another category of N-nitroso compounds, alkylate cellular nucleophiles in vivo, and might induce gene mutation and lead to carcinogenesis by DNA alkylation. Its active form is released after elimination of aldehyde; i.e. N-nitrosamines do not carbamoylate proteins. We have an interest in structure modification of alkylating nitrosamines as useful candidates for anticancer lead compounds. Three N-nitroso-N-(acetoxymethyl)-ω-chloroalkylamines, chloroethyl, chloropropyl and chlorobutylamines have been synthesized and their chemical and biological properties were evaluated. The chloropropyl nitrosamine showed mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium TA92 that is positively responsive to DNA cross-linker, and also showed interstrand cross-linking activity towards plasmid DNA assayed by agarose gel electrophoresis. Then three-ring aromatic moieties were introduced into the structure of chloropropyl nitrosamine to potentiate its binding affinity to DNA molecules. Although three aromatic analogs intercalated to double-stranded DNA, only acridine analog had DNA cross-linking activity. In TA92 strain, the acridine analog showed the highest mutagenicity among all nine N-nitroso compounds used in this study. These results suggest that the aromatic ring moiety confers DNA-intercalating ability to the cross-linkable chloropropyl nitrosamine; the acridine analog that forms DNA cross-links efficiently might be a potential new anticancer lead compound. To assess the application of cross-linkable nitrosamines as new anticancer agents, further investigations such as that on DNA adducts or on their activity towards cancer cells are required.

    N-Demethylvancomycin, which has been clinically used in China, is one member of vancomycin group (glycopeptide) antibiotics. It differs from vancomycin only in that methyl group on the amino group of the N-terminal residue of vancomycin has been replaced by H. By reductive alkylation of N-demethylvancomycin, we synthesized N-alkyl and N, N′-dialkyl N-demethylvancomycins, which closely correlated with vancomycin in structure. The association constants of the complexes of N-demethylvancomycin and its analogues with di-N-Ac-L-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala and the antibiotic activity against Staphylo-coccus aureus of the glycopeptides were determined. Results showed that N-demethylvancomycin has higher affinity for bacterial cell wall analogue di-N-Ac-L-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala and more potent antibiotic activity against Staphylococcus aureus than vancomycin. Both N-alkylation and N, N′-dialkylation of N-demethylvancomycin reduced the affinity and antibiotic activity. The longer the alkyl groups, the less potent antibiotic activities and lower affinities have the glycopeptides. The antibiotic activities against Staphylococcus aureus of N-demethylvancomycin and its analogues roughly parallel their affinities for di-N-Ac-L-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala.

    We report three cases of
    22
    q11.2 deletion syndrome (CATCH
    22
    ; cardiac defects, abnormal faces, thymic hypoplasia, cleft palate and hypocalcemia with chromosome
    22
    q11.2 deletion) with various complications including hearing loss and nasopharyngeal problems. All three cases we report here had congenital cardiac defects. Two of the three cases had cleft palate, one overt and the other submucoals. Although one of the three cases had a normal hearing level, the other two were almost deaf, one with and the other without inner ear anomalies. The former case was prescribed a hearing aid, and for the latter case, cochlear implantation operation was conducted at the age of three years and seven months. Both of these patients have successfully developed communication skills.

    shows a variety of phenotypes, including hearing loss and nasopharyngeal malformations, either of which may disturb speech ability and thus, furthermore, mental development of the child. However, this condition may be improved by early and adequate intervention. Thus, otolaryngologists should be familiarized with the typical facial abnormality and most frequent manifestations of this syndrome, and be ready to treat patients with
    22
    q11 deletion, providing them with intensive and individualized prescription at their early stages.
