What is COUNTER?
COUNTER (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources),
launched in 2002, is an international initiative to improve the reliability of online usage statistics. It is supported by the vendor,
intermediary and librarian communities. COUNTER's objective is to ensure that vendor online usage reports are credible,
compatible and consistent. This is achieved by the publication of Codes of Practice that specify the content, format,
delivery mechanisms and data processing rules for a set of core usage reports that are easily implemented by vendors and
easily understood by librarians and others who use them.
J-STAGE provides the following reports,
Journal Report 1

- Consortium Report 1**
*Since The data both GOA and HTML format was not available at J-STAGE at this moment, access examination was not possible with real data and JR1GOA was not recognized as formal criteria by Project COUNTER.

Q: I cannot download the COUNTER report.A: Possible causes are the followings.
(1) When you choose no journal to download, you cannot download the COUNTER report.
Please execute download to specify at least one journal. The setting is at Report Manager.
(2) You may specify the period that data does not exist, you cannot download the COUNTER report.
Please specify the period after your COUNTER account is obtained.
Q: When I choose the journal to download, the following message is displayed and ended with error.“___ search result(s) has/have been found. Search results cannot be displayed because they exceed 100 entries. Please refine your search.”
A: When search results are beyond 100 cases, it ended with error. Please specify parameters (Title, Publisher, ISSN, Subject Area) to narrow down the search results less than 100.
What kind of report will we receive?
J-STAGE will monthly report on the aggregate usage, or the number of PDF downloads, of the COUNTER participating journals* at all the registered IP addresses of your institution**.
The report will be ready for download from the web by the end of each following month, with email alerts***.
*Lists of participating journals are available.

How and when should we request our report?
Please create an account to receive the report through a registration form.
The usage at each institution will be counted from the day of its registration, and a first report will be available by the end of the following month.
On change of your IP address, please sign-in "J-STAGE COUNTER Report service" to update your account. The usage for the new IP address will be counted from the day of the update.
- Creating and updating your account can be done at "J-STAGE COUNTER Report service" page only and not at "Journal@rchive COUNTER Report service" page.
- The account you so created or updated is valid for both J-STAGE and Journal@rchive COUNTER Report service pages.
