Abstract
A 50-year-old female, with chronic pyothorax occurred after pneumothorax for pulmonary tuberculosis, was admitted with remittent high fever. Leucocytosis and accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate were found. X-ray finding indicated a consolidation it the left phrenico-costal sinus. It was difficult to differentiate this neoplasmic shadow from pyothorax density.
Upon surgery a gray-white necrotic tumor which was grown from the chest wall was confirmed. Histologic examination demonstrated liposarcoma of round cell type. The mass was removed.
Local recurrence of the tumor appeared on the 7th month after surgery even though anti-cancer drugs were given postoperatively. Excellent response to the irradiation therapy was demonstrated.
The authors recommend for the liposarcoma of round cell type the irradiation therapy after surgical removal of the tumor rather than the chemotherapy.
