Abstract
Seven patients aged 7 monthes to 8 years with Yolk Sac tumors were treated at our hospital during last 8 years. Primary sites were testicular(2), ovarian(2), sacrococcygeal (2) and vaginal (1). Pre-operative serum alpha-fetoprotein levels were ranging from 926 to 174,000ng/ml. All of the patinets received chemotherapy after total or subtotal removal of primary tumor (VAC for two testicular tumors, cisplatin-based regimens for others). All four patients with gonadal tumor achieved complete remission. One patients with sacrococcygeal tumor died of interstital penumonia attributed to chemotherapy. The other two cases were refractory and needed further treatment. Cisplatin-based regimens are actually effective to malignant germ cell tumor and even delayed primary surgery after chemotherapy is indicated in some. However, there are still some problems in the treatment of this disease such as severe adverse effect of drugs, refractory disease and relapsing.
