In recent years, arc plasmas which have the features of high current, ultrahigh temperature and highly radiant power have been applied to waste treatment, because few exhaust gases such as CO2 are generated. However, they should be applied to proper waste treatment with consideration of the kind and amount of waste for an environmentally sound material cycle in the 21st century. This article introduces the radiant power property from the DC transferred arc plasma, application of radiant power to waste treatment and surface cleaning using cathode spots.
