A 30-year-old woman had recognized dull pain in the right back. A right upper abdominal mass found elsewhere prompted ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen which revealed a giant solitary liver cyst located in the right lobe, with a diameter of 16cm. While driving a car, she suddenly experienced severe abdominal pain, and the abdominal mass disappeared at that inastant. She visited our hospital, and ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen revealed intra-abodminal bleeding following spontaneous rupture of the hepatic cyst. She underwent an emergency operation. A ruptured solitary cyst was recognized in the right hepatic lobe. The size of the ruptured point was about 3cm, and the lacation was near the diaphragm. Wide excision of the cyst was carried out. The postoperative course was uneventful. A CT scan obtained 6 months after the operation confirmed absence of the cystic lesion in the liver.
