Abstract
A new nephropid lobster, Nephropsis hamadai, is described from a bathyal depth in Sagami Nada, central Japan. The new species is readily distinguished from N. stewarti Wood-Mason, 1873 by the combination of stout and less pubescent body, and spinose dorsal rostral carinae. It is also distinguished from the closest species, N. serrata Macpherson, 1993, from northern Australia by the shapes of coxal processes of both the second and third pereopods.
