Abstract

Formaldehyde cabinet in ambient temperature is used to sterilize surgical equipments that are not capable of heat sterilization in our operating room. The effictiveness of the cabinet was tested 150 times in past three years using commercial biological indicator (spores of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus stearothermophilus).Formaldehyde cabinerte is 0.4m^3 and approximately 240gm of formaldehyde granules were placed in the cabinet and changed biweekly. The results indicate that seventy two hour exposures were necessary to sterilize these spores and corrosion of metal was not observed.
