Abstract

“Life cycle and life events” in the course of “Human services” was given to the social and care workers that supported persons with social welfare needs. After the lecture group discussion was held about their practice. I examined reports which the workshop participants (108 people) wrote immediately about what they have learnt through the group discussion after the lecture. A statistical analysis was made by using “PASW Text Analysis for Surveys and Statistics” for the offered free description paper. First, the components of the free description answers were extracted and similar words and phrases were coded. Next, the principal component analysis was made for the components whose threshold value was two or more. Moreover, the cluster analysis (extracting method used was Ward Linkage, and the measurement method used was the Square Euclid Distance) was made referring to the obtained Total Variance Explained, Component Matrix and Component Plot. The three professionals of social welfare and psychology made coding, naming, and verifying the all clusters. As a result of this study, it became clear that participants learned importance of “transaction between person and social environment” and “interaction between self and the otherness” in regard to basic theory of social work.
