Abstract
Analyses of the 1978 edition of the CBST Chemistry Series (Foreign and Domestic sections) are made as regards four major categories analytical and physical; organic and high polymer; life science; and industrial chemistry, and article generating patterns, distribution by country, by language, and breakdown by characteristics of articles, etc. are obtained. Ath the same time comparisons with the competing Chemical Abstracts are made. It is made clear that the CA covers, in addition to the above major categories, also physics, metallurgy, geology, atomic engineering and environmental pollution, which are separately treated in the CBST family, and even medicine and biology, which are far beyond the scope of the CBST.
