Abstract
The EAM (Electro Attractive Material) is one of the functional materials. In recent years, some applications using the EAM are developed for many mechanical devices, for example, a clamp, an actuator and a brake. There have been studied because of their simple structures and high responsibility. In a previous study, the friction torque of 9.2Nm was achieved by the EAM brake. The EAM brake showed excellent outputs and responsibility, however there have been still remained to be improved, since the devices need the high voltage power supply (1.0kV). In this study, an improved EAM brake was invented and the static and dynamic friction properties were investigated, especially focusing on the voltage and temperature dependency. Variations of the static and dynamic frictional properties were measured by providing a rotation to the shaft of the EAM brake. As the result, the frictional torque and the current value are increased with the input voltage. However the increasing rates of the frictional torque are decelerated at the lower and higher voltage level. From the results of the temperature dependence in the EAM brake, the highest frictional torque was obtained in the range of 0℃ and 25℃. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the frictional torque depended on the temperature in the EAM brake.
