Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate forms of kaerumata by structural analyzing, which consists of strut for Japanese traditional architecture. Forms of kaerumata have been designed differently depending on areas or the carpenter in each period. From the late 12th century to 15th century, it was a critical period in which kaerumata accomplished transformation from a structural role into a decorative one. Therefore, we focused on kaerumata in 13th century. The analysis consisted of using finite element method for plane strain condition. Results showed that the two small holes of kaerumata affect positively internal stress.
