Garden varieties of Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis RUPR.) showed symptoms of ring spot, mosaic or complexes each, when inoculated by the carborundum method or by aphids (Myzus persicae SULZ.) with the virus strains which had produced ring spot or mosaic symptoms in Chinese cabbage. Varieties of chinese cabbage susceptible to the virus strains were Nozaki No. 2, Kyoto No. 3, Shimoyamachitose and Matushima No. 7. The ring spot symptom was easily produced on Shimoyamachitose, Nozaki No. 2, and Kyoto No. 3, and was difficult on Nagaokakohairiso, Hakusyokuhotoren and Matushima No. 7. The virus strain that produced the ring spot symptom on Chinese cabbage occurred naturally in Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Nagasaki districts. It also produced mosaic symptoms on radish (Raphanus sativus L.), turnip (Brassica rapa L.) and produced ring spots on some varieties of Chinese cabbage.
