Abstract
An energy-saving demonstration plant which was equipped with the latest model, TSX-200, was built at Sanuki Salt Manufacturing Co. of Shikoku Island in August, 1983.
For its operation started in July, 1985, there were employed CIMS membranes which were newly developed, having high permselectivity to monovalent cation, and new type ACS membranes with low electric resistance. Also, the electrodialyzer was modified. Thus, the following excellent results were obtained: the power consumption of 150kWh/t, NaCl content of 200g/l, current efficiency of 94%, and NaCl purity of 94%. The CIMS membrane does not require such selectivity treatment on the spot as required by the existing membranes.
