Abstract
A Magneto-Optical disk system, named iD (intelligent, image) photo disk has been developed as a next generation media for a digital still camera. It has a large recording capacity, 730MB with a 50.8mm in diameter. It employs the laser pumped magnetic field modulation method for recording and Center Aperture Detection (CAD) type Magnetic Super Resolution (MSR) for reproducing. Furthermore, next generation media is investigated by using zero-field type MAMMOS (Magnetic Amplifying Magneto-optical System) technology with a 650-nm laser diode and a 0.60 N.A. objective lens so as to keep compatibility with the first generation iD photo disk. It was shown that the linear bit length of 0.13μm was successfully reproduced with enough readout tolerances. The mostly double recording capacity up to 1.3GB in 50.8mm diameter disk was achieved.
