Abstract
For still cameras and camcorders, eliminating image blur due to camera shake is a major technical pursuit almost on par with automatic exposure control (AE) and automatic focusing (AF). At first, image stabilization technologies were developed for military equipments and expanded to TV cameras, so these systems were large and expensive. But improvement of vibrating gyroscopes for a camera shake detection sensor and a microprocessor for controlling the blur compensating mechanism, image stabilizer spread to consumer use cameras for the last decade. This paper describes image stabilizing system as follows, (1) Background of image stabilizing technologies, (2) Mechanism and control system of image stabilizer for single lens reflex camera, (3) Evaluation methods for image stabilizing performance.
