Abstract
We performed cumulative skin irritation and skin sensitization tests for the nano-capsulated emu oil-based moisturizer “Emurance EE Serum” which was emulsified with lecithin in order to evaluate its skin safety. The participants were 27 healthy people (aged 20-60 years), who did not have skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis or eczema. The moisturizer Emurance EE Serum is a cosmetic in which 2% emu oil was dissolved through the lecithin-emulsification method. This is the first use of the lecithin-emulsification method for an emu oil-based moisturizer in Japan. The cumulative skin irritation test was performed by attaching a closed patch of the sample to the paravertebral area of the participants for 24 hours, and this test was repeated nine times over a period of three weeks. The skin sensitization test was performed from 10 to 14 days after the cumulative skin irritation test. The patch was attached at the same location for 24 hours, and the skin was observed immediately after removal of the patch and 24 hours later. Positive reactions were not noted in any of the participants. Therefore, the moisturizer Emurance EE Serum can be safely used on the skin.Skin Research, 16: 88-92, 2017
