The recovery method of manganese from waste electrolytic solution was investigated. NaOH solution and NH
4Cl-NH
4OH buffer solution were used for controling pH in order to extract Mn from the waste. As a result, it was found that the use of NH
4Cl-NH
4OH buffer solution was effective for resource of manganese from waste electrolytic solution.

The microwave reflection intensity (r) was measured for Al2O3 (ALO), SrTiO3 (STO) single crystal substrates and BaTiO3 (BTO) ceramics at room temperature using a single probe as a function of distance between sample and probe. The reflection coefficient (G) of samples was estimated in comparison with results of electromagnetic simulation using finite differential time domain (FDTD) method. The difference of r spectra for ALO, STO single crystal substrates and BTO ceramics at 9.43GHz was observed in the region where the distance of 0.2 mm (ALO, STO) and 0.35mm (BTO) between sample and probe, and they were caused from dielectric constants of samples. The r intensities of ALO and STO single crystal were transformed to dielectric permittivity at r intensity minimum points.

The resonance property of ring resonator on Al2O3 substrate was measured using un-contact probe up to the frequency of 10 GHz in order to investigate dielectric property. Firstly, the Cu-ring was designed by electromagnetic simulation using finite integrate time (FIT) domain method, and it was then prepared on Al2O3 substrate by the photo-lithography and lift off techniques. At 6.16 GHz, the resonance peak of Cu-ring on Al2O3 substrate was measured using un-contact probes, and resonance peak was compared with result of electromagnetic simulation.

The dielectric layers in X7R-MLCC has the core-shell structure. It is known that the capacitance of the X7R-MLCC reduced markedly by applying dc-bias field for a log time. This phenomenon becomes a problem for usage of MLCCs. In this study, the origin of this degradation phenomenon was studied to clarify its origin. The degradation process was thermally activated process. The ratio of capacitance change (dC) saturated to a certain value after a long dime duration even temperature or chemical composition was changed. Form the results of several experiments, it was concluded that the degradation was caused by the 90-degree domain-wall motion in BaTiO3 grains at the core.

The effect of in-situ magnetic field generated by electromagnet on crystal structure of NiO films during pulsed laser deposition (PLD) was examined. It was found that there is a very narrow pressure window to achieve room temperature crystallization. Lattice parameter of NiO film was changed with the magnitude of magnetic field. A possibility to create magnetic-field induced modulation-structure was also tried.

Size effect on crystal structure has been investigated for barium titanate (BaTiO
3) nanoparticles of 40, 140 and 430 nm sizes, by means of neutron and high-resolution synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction and Raman scattering techniques. These samples are prepared by a modified 2-step thermal decomposition method from barium titanyl oxalate, resulting in very less lattice impurities. Rietveld analysis of neutron diffraction data of the 430 nm- and 140 nm-sized BaTiO
3 particles were performed assuming a single phase of tetragonal (
P4
mm) structure. The axial ratio c/a of tetragonal BaTiO
3 decreases with decrease of particle size from 430 nm to 140 nm, suggesting a soft-mode mechanism for high dielectric constant of BaTiO
3 particles with the size of 140 nm. Barium titanate particles with the size of 40 nm consist of (1) tetragonal crystals (83 wt%) with a large cell volume and axial ratio of near unity, and of (2) hexagonal phase (
P6
3mmc, 17 wt%) with a large unit-cell volume, leading to low dielectric constant. Rietveld and maximum-entropy method analyses strongly suggest that there exist atomic displacements from the ideal site of cubic structure and a spontaneous polarization of the tetragonal phase even in the 40 nm-sized BaTiO
3 particles. The nuclear density distribution of the 140 nm-sized particles with high dielectric constant does not exhibit very large positional disorder, while the Ba atom of tetragonal BaTiO
3 in the 40 nm-sized particles has a smaller atomic displacement parameter.

High density, almost impurity-free and defect-free barium titanate fine particles with various sizes from 20 to 1000 nm were prepared by 2-steps thermal decomposition of barium titanyl oxalate and post-heating treatment. The crystal structures of these particles were investigated as a function of the size using synchrotron radiation XRD measurement and Raman scattering measurement. As a result, the ferroelectric phase transition observed around 30 nm. Moreover, the temperature dependences of the crystal structures were investigated. As a result, the temperature of tetragonal–cubic phase transition was constant despite particle sizes, but the volume change temperature shifted to low temperature with decreasing particle sizes.
