Abstract

The adhesive connection between steel members has the merits of stress relaxation and damping during the vibration, while the bolted connection does not have. However, due to the variation in strength, the adhesive connection between steel members is not applicable to the steel structures so far.In this research, the fundamental static strength characteristics of the adhesive connection between steel members are investigated by conducting the component test such as the tensile test, the tensile shear test, and the bending and shear test. In this case, acrylic and epoxy adhesive are employed to connect the steel members and the single lap shear test and double lap shear test are conducted in tensile shear test.As a result,it can be found that the shear strength in the single lap shear test is smaller than the one in the double lap shear test and that the shear strength in the bending and shear test is far smaller than the one in the single lap shear test. This is the reason why the adhesive surface is subjected to the normal stress as well as the shear stress due to the bending of the steel plate in the single lap shear test and the bending and shear test.
